ABOUT ME

I'm a Level Designer at The Chinese Room.

 

I graduated with a First Class Degree for BA (Hons) Game Design & Production Management from Abertay University.

 

For as long as I can remember I have been playing video games; many of my first memories involve playing iconic games such as Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation. I have always aspired to work in the games industry, due to the large impact that video games have had on my life. I am extremely passionate about game development, demonstrated in my enthusiasm to participate in game jams. Despite my love for all aspects of game production, my true passion undeniably lies within building worlds that the player can explore.

SKILLS:

Level Design, Game Design, Environmental Storytelling, Narrative Design, Blueprint Scripting and 3D Modelling.

SOFTWARE:

Unreal Engine 5, Maya,  Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office and Perforce.

EDUCATION:

BA (Hons) Game Design & Production Management - First Class Degree

EXPERIENCE:

Level Designer at The Chinese Room (2020 - Present)

  • Worked on Still Wakes the Deep from 2020 until it's release in 2024.

  • Creating the intial blockouts, scripting the level flow with our in house mission editor, using my knowledge of Blueprints and Sequences to show intent of final gameplay while in the blockout phase

  • Working with the other disciplines to turn the initial blockouts for my scenes into the final released product

  • Collaborating with relevant disciplines to ensure the delivery and pacing of the emotional scenes throughout SWTD were impactful

  • As the last remaining Level Designer on the team it was my responsibility to fix bugs and polish scenes throughout the whole game so that the game was shipped to a high standard

  • Collaborating with the Programming team and the Lead Designer to help develop and give feedback on the tools we needed to ship SWTD

  • Working closely with the Programming team to redefine the behaviours for the monsters featured in SWTD, allowing us to script their behaviour state and control them with our in house mission editor

Level Designer at Rivet Games (2019 - 2020)

  • Responsible for designing and re-creating real-world locations for Train Simulator DLC

  • Also responsible for designing and scripting the player missions/ scenarios in our DLC

Designer and Research Assistance at Abertay University (2018)

  • Designed and Developed a VR experience, Their Memory for Poppyscotland.

Quality Assurance Tester at The Secret Experiment on Beckett (2017)

  • Responsible for testing the Scottish BAFTA award-winning game, Beckett 

Level and Narrative Designer at Yarn Spinner (A side project with friends)

  • Developed short narrative experiences such as Causeway and No Response.
